Tricycle

From when can children ride a tricycle?

Riding a tricycle as a toddler is the best foundation for riding a bicycle later on. On the three wheels, your child can first get a feel for "pedalling" without having to watch his or her balance. The tricycle guarantees a stable stand. The age at which children can learn to ride a tricycle depends greatly on the motor development of the child.

For example, there are girls and boys who master riding a tricycle quite quickly and others who need a little longer - this is completely normal. Basically, however, it can be said that children between 1.5 and 3 years of age usually use the tricycle intensively. During the first attempts, parents must of course be supportive and, for example, explain the pedalling movements on the foot pedals or push the child. Especially in the beginning, the little explorers still have a hard time with leg coordination. Once they get the hang of it, however, there is often no stopping them and parents have a hard time keeping up.

Tip: If your child has problems with pedalling, a walking tricycle may be a suitable alternative for the transition. This model can easily be converted from a tricycle to a running bike.

Which tricycle is suitable for which age?

Tricycle from 1 year

If your child is between 10 months and 1 year old, so-called all-in-one models are recommended. We offer all-in-one models, e.g. from the brands SmarTrike or Smoby. These tricycles can be used as a substitute for a pram or buggy and are very popular with families because of their versatility.

Tricycles from 2 years

From the age of 2, a tricycle for your toddler with a metal frame and sturdy rubber tyres, such as the tricycle from Baghera or a tricycle with a roof from Bax Trike. At the age of 2, children spend more and more time on the tricycle outdoors and are therefore also exposed to higher levels of UV radiation. A tricycle with a roof can protect against too much sunlight.

Tricycles that grow with the child

To avoid having to buy new tricycles all the time, we recommend all-in-one models that can be easily converted and can be used for a variety of purposes between the ages of 1 and 5. Such models offer e.g. Globber Explorer or Smoby.

How to teach your child to ride a tricycle

If you want to teach your child to ride a tricycle, a tricycle with a push bar is practical. Either the push bar is already included with the tricycle or it can easily be purchased separately. The push bar allows you to push your child during a walk, which means that your offspring will get to know the children's tricycle with a safe feeling.

This way, the little one can fully concentrate on steering the chic companion. At such a young age, kids still have the attention span to concentrate on several things at once. First of all, they have to concentrate on steering. Pedalling then usually takes place later in life. From the age of 4, kids can concentrate on steering and pedalling at the same time. When they are big children, they can then manage a good interplay of pedalling, steering and keeping their balance. Please note, however, that these are only guidelines.
