Duvet for children - warmly bedded and safe through the night

When it comes to bedding for children, opinions differ. Pillows, mattresses and duvets for children are a must, that much is clear. But which duvet is suitable for children, which baby duvet should it be? Depending on their age, children have different needs. Therefore, it makes sense to change the children's duvet in the course of childhood. For the first set of duvets, a bed set is a good choice.

The right duvet for every age

The manufacturers take this into account and offer children's duvets in 100x135 cm for the smallest children, while for older children the children's duvet already measures 135x200 cm. This not only has something to do with body size, but also with safety during sleep. Because small as well as big children like to snuggle completely into the duvet so that they are surrounded by cosy warmth all around.

However, very young children are not yet as mobile as older children. It is easy for them to get their head under the covers and then it is difficult for them to breathe. Many parents reject larger duvets for this reason, because the children could suffocate under them. This is not entirely wrong, even if a child's duvet must basically be made of breathable materials. For very active children, however, a sleeping bag can be used as an alternative. These come in different sizes and for different seasons.

Warming, breathable, made of natural materials

Babies cannot yet regulate their own temperature. The little body only learns this in the weeks and months of the first two years of life. That's why babies cool down quickly, but also overheat easily. This is especially the case during sleep. They should always be wrapped up warmly and wrapped all around in a blanket. To prevent children from sweating, the duvet must be breathable, so the moist heat of the body should not accumulate in the children's duvet. A good cover contributes to this .

If possible, the cover should be made of cotton or another vegetable fibre. For the filling, either synthetic materials or natural materials can be used. The thick duvet for winter can be filled with down or feathers. These fillings allow the skin to breathe better than synthetic materials.

In the warm season, it may be a thinner children's duvet made of synthetic fibres or alternatively Tencel or bamboo fibres. By the way, a light blanketcan replace a heavy duvet in summer and provide additional warmth in winter.
