Tips for buying a children's backpack

When choosing a new children's backpack, there are many things you can consider in order to choose a faithful companion with your child. With the right choice of school backpack or kindergarten bag, you can ensure a healthy back and avoid frequent new purchases. We have put together useful tips for buying a children's backpack for you. This way, nothing will go wrong when buying a bag and especially afterwards.

What size should a children's backpack be?

The right size depends, of course, on whether you are looking for a school backpack or a leisure backpack, whether the bag is to be taken on an occasional outing or will be a daily companion. However, for the sake of your children and their backs, you should decide according to age and pack the backpack lightly rather than too heavily: a volume of up to four litres is considered suitable for your mini between one and three years. Up to five years, you can choose a companion for your junior that holds a maximum of ten litres. From the age of six, children can then carry eleven to a maximum of 16 litres.

Which backpack is suitable for children?

If only a few items such as a lunch box, water bottle and toys are to be carried, a mini backpack is perfectly adequate. The kindergarten bag doesn't have to be big - most of the important things are already stored on site and the food doesn't take up much space in the bag. If it's going to sports or on a trip, more storage space is needed. Every children's backpack should ideally have an adjustable chest strap, a padded back and reflective elements. An outside pocket for the water bottle is very practical and is therefore often important when choosing for your child.

What should you look for when buying a children's backpack?

Of course, the children's backpack should please your child - the design and colour should not only be practical, but also suit your little adventurer. This is the only way for you as parents to ensure that your protégé accepts your choice and enjoys taking the new bag with him or her to discover the world, romp around or experience adventures at kindergarten every day. Although an inexpensive children's backpack is available for as little as CHF 10, the comfort, details and suitability for everyday use while your child is out and about are even more important than the seemingly perfect price. The weight of the backpack itself should not be too high so that carrying it with contents is not too heavy.

Which fabric is particularly suitable?

Materials that are robust and washable are best suited for the new children's backpack. The material should be of high quality and non-toxic, i.e. without BPA, phthalates and PVC. Especially for a hiking backpack and leisure backpacks in general, it is optimal if they are not sensitive and easy to clean. Easily wipeable material allows you to give the children's backpack a basic clean in between if your junior doesn't want to hand over his beloved "friend" for a proper wash. For school, material that combines both carrying comfort and durability is advantageous. When all the notebooks and books are stowed away, every school backpack reaches a certain weight. To ensure that the school bag does not have to be replaced after a short time, it pays off if you attach importance to high quality when buying.

If you keep these tips in mind when choosing a new children's backpack, chances are good that your protégé will remember his or her companion fondly. Instead of carrying heavy luggage on one side, your child will then probably continue to enjoy using the back-friendly carrying system as an adult.
