Products from Medela
Medela sees itself as the expert for all breastfeeding needs! Because breast milk is the best for the child's development. The World Health Organisation recommends exclusively breastfeeding your child for the first six months. Beyond that, breast milk continues to be an important supplement to solid food until the child is 2 years old. Breastfeeding not only provides the child with food, but breast milk also protects the baby from infections and promotes the mother-child relationship.
Olle Larsson, the founder of the brand, has been dedicated to breastfeeding products since 1961 and has made it his goal to support breastfeeding mothers. The Swiss manufacturer really does offer everything that expectant and breastfeeding mothers need, namely from breast pumps to nursing pads. But what if breastfeeding doesn't work right from the start? For example, if the child refuses the breast or suffers from illnesses that make sucking difficult. Medela is also the right "address" for solving breastfeeding problems. All of the brand's products are based on more than two decades of research. In the 1980s, the company also established itself in Germany and has since become the world's most popular supplier of breastfeeding products. Medela's market-leading product is the Symphony breast pump, which is used in over 80 percent of German maternity clinics thanks to its medical vacuum technology.
In addition to research, product quality and a sense of responsibility are also very important. This is precisely why the manufacturer has been able to count on the trust of its customers for over 30 years, who purchase its products either directly or through independent partners. Today, Medela products are sold in more than 100 countries.
The first location in Germany was established in Oberschleißheim near Munich in 1987 due to the good transport connections and easy accessibility to the Swiss parent company. In 1993, the German location was moved to Eching, as the warehouse there has its own loading and unloading area. In 2005, the construction of a new logistics hall in Dietersheim was started, which was completed in 2006. In Dietersheim, logistics, purchasing and service are carried out on a total of 630 m2. Since 2012, there has also been an administration building at this location, where 120 people are employed.
Medela's range includes products made for the needs of parents as well as those used by professionals. The manufacturer is concerned about promoting the health of the child through breast milk. And to this end, it also offers technical solutions for professionals to get lactation going and solve breastfeeding problems together with parents:
1. For pumping and collecting breast milk
Symphony breast pump
The Symphony breast pump has a research-based pumping programme. Maternity clinics use it to stimulate milk flow and to pump the first drops of milk if breastfeeding or sucking is difficult. Many mothers also use it beyond the clinic stay to pump milk throughout the breastfeeding period. In addition, the pump is also used to stimulate milk flow and maintain milk production in case of breastfeeding problems such as milk engorgement. For use at home, the pump can be rented or purchased from pharmacies as needed.
Disposable pump sets and disposable milk bottles
The EO-sterile disposable pump set is used for pumping with the Symphony breast pump without any cleaning at all. It is therefore intended for one-day use and is perfect for use in clinics or for irregular pumping at home. The disposable pump set includes everything needed to express breast milk. The accompanying breast shield is available in three sizes. The attachment fits all Medela milk bottles.
For single use, Medela also offers disposable milk bottles and colostrum containers that can be taken straight out of the packaging and used - without any prior cleaning. After use, they are simply disposed of. The colustrum container holds 35 ml, while the bottles are available in three sizes (80 ml, 150 ml and 250 ml). The disposable bottles are suitable for collecting, storing and feeding breast milk.
Reusable pump sets and reusable breast milk bottles
The reusable pump sets and reusable breast milk bottles are intended for long-term use with the Symphony breast pump. They are an integral part of the Medela pumping system. If you want to pump a lot of breast milk over a long period of time, the reusable pump sets and reusable milk bottles are the right choice. This is the case, for example, if the child refuses the breast and is bottle-fed, or if you regularly pump breast milk for on the go, daycare, etc.
Since the reusable pump sets and reusable bottles can be used again and again, using these products is good for both the environment and your wallet. Medela's milk bottles are all BPA-free. Moreover, they are not only suitable for storing and feeding breast milk, but also for pasteurising the milk. This is a process that is carried out in milk banks. The reusable bottles are available in the 150 ml size.
All Medela reusable products are easy to clean and can be sterilised perfectly using the usual methods. Many hospitals also use the reusable pump sets and reusable milk bottles. Since the pump sets are autoclavable, they are safe for use by several women. For use in hospitals, the reusable pump sets are supplied in practical multiboxes. Each multibox contains 20 pump sets that can be used for one-sided or two-sided pumping. The PersonalFit breast shields supplied are available in three sizes.
PersonalFit breast shields
Medela's products adapt to every need, so the manufacturer is of course aware that not every breast shield fits every woman. That's why Medela also offers the PersonalFit nipple shields in five sizes! So every woman can find the right breast shield. After all, the right size of breast shield is also the be-all and end-all for efficient pumping, as it simply fits better and more comfortably. Only in this way is it possible to produce a large quantity of milk and empty the breast completely. Using the breast shields with the Medela Symphony breast pump guarantees the best pumping result. There are two PersonalFit Breast Covers in each pack and 25 in each Multibox.
2. for storing breast milk
Calesca reheating/ defrosting device
With Calesca from Medela, breast milk can be defrosted and reheated quickly and easily. And all without water. The device works with the help of air circulation and has been specially developed for use in neonatal intensive care units and can be hung on infusion stands next to the bed. But of course, Calesca is also suitable for home use, where it can be placed on any work surface. Breast milk is quite sensitive in its structure and must not be exposed to excessive heat. Medela's warming device warms breast milk to the exact temperature without affecting its composition.
Quick Clean microwave bag
All products that come into contact with breast milk should always be kept clean! Maintaining strict hygiene is important to prevent infections in babies, especially newborns. Therefore, all pumping equipment as well as all milk bottles should be cleaned well and sterilised regularly. However, sterilising everything often takes a lot of time and effort. But not with Medela: the manufacturer has launched a quick and uncomplicated alternative to boiling: the Medela Quick Clean microwave bag.
Whether breast caps, bottles, teats or soothers - all parts can be placed in the bag, then a little water is added. The bag and its contents are then placed in the microwave, where steam sterilisation takes place. This method kills up to 99.9 percent of all germs and bacteria. After use, the bags can be easily stored away because they are small and space-saving. And the Medela Quick Clean microwave bag is also reusable: it can be used up to 20 times in total.
If you often transport breast milk, you need a cooling bag! Medela has a suitable solution for this: the manufacturer's cooler bag contains a precisely fitting cooling battery that was specially developed for Medela's milk bottles. This cold pack ensures that breast milk can be stored for as long as possible. In this way, mum's milk can be transported safely from work to home or to the nursery, where it is reheated before feeding. The cooler bag contains four Medela milk bottles and also comes with an additional cooling battery.
