Leander

When an idea became a company - Stig Leander
It was 1998 when Stig's sister-in-law was expecting twins. Leander sister-in-law was expecting twins. In this context, the question arose whether it would not be possible to develop a cradle in such a way that the baby would be soothed on the one hand, and on the other hand the design would also promote the baby's development?
Stig was a trained blacksmith and therefore knew how to design chairs, prams and bicycles. These skills and the knowledge of making something useful were to be incorporated into his idea of developing a piece of furniture for babies that was both simple and functional, and which added value for its users. The aim of his idea was to soothe one of the twins while the other was being breastfed.
Stig's vision created an international company
The vision that Stig Leander had in mind represented something new - something that no one had previously considered relevant or necessary. The result was unveiled to the public in Denmark's leading shops barely a year later, as the first mass production of the still legendary Classic™ series cradle.
Today Leander an international company that exports its products to more than 30 countries worldwide. The product development of the design furniture for children as well as the administration and storage are located in Silkeborg, Denmark - the production, on the other hand, is carried out by long-standing cooperation partners in Europe.
What was Stig's goal then as now?
The focus has always been on creating furniture for children with added value. Consequently, Stig is still concerned with creating children's furniture that encourages children's play, movement and creativity. In short, furniture from Leander furniture should promote children's development and at the same time offer added value.
The form and function of the furniture should merge into one unit - the goal is therefore also that the furniture adapts to the children, and not vice versa. This interplay of materials, form and function has already earned the company several awards. Examples are:
2019 German Design Award, Category, Baby and Cild Care for "Matty".
2020 Baby and Child Top 10 Nomination for "Matty".
2020 Baby Innovation Award nomination for "Matty"
Leander "dreams and feels" design
Behind the design of the children's furniture is a man who does not draw the design - Stig feels and dreams it. His creative thoughts are not dominated by computer programs and drawing pads when designing - with the help of wood, glue, cardboard and string, the design is created down to the smallest detail until it is as he has "dreamed" it.
Meaningful innovations require a great eye for form and function. Where others encounter limitations in realisation, Stig finds possibilities that add value. The focus in development thus falls on the needs of the children that need to be met - obstacles in design are removed and solved until a unique piece of furniture is created in form and function.
Responsibility towards sustainability
For the company, good craftsmanship combined with a well thought-out implementation of the vision also means creating sustainability. Among other things, quality is also a basis for sustainability - after all, pieces of furniture can be passed on for generations. In this way, Stig not only creates furniture with added value - responsibility towards the environment also flows into his visions and avoids wasting resources. Furniture from Leander furniture is timeless and indestructible.
