Revolution on the toy market: vegan modeling clay
Playing is an essential part of being human. It is particularly important for young children to be able to live out their play instinct. It allows us to discover the world and its nature in a playful way. Modeling clay is considered to be a particularly creative toy, as it is initially shapeless and only takes on a form through its processing. A start-up in southern Germany is now offering a vegan alternative to conventional modeling clay. This environmentally friendly version is called Knetä.
Versatile
Knetä is aimed at a young target group and, in addition to its resource-saving production process, is a toy with a high educational value. The background to this is to train young children in the use of shapes, touch and cutting. In addition, motor skills are developed. For older fans of modeling clay, the focus is on aspects of perception and imagination. Apart from the growing target group, modeling clay is also used by adult subjects, for example as part of therapeutic measures for rheumatism or as a result of wrist surgery.
What is a sustainable toy?
Knetä modeling clay is a sustainable toy. But what does that actually mean? According to the definition, a toy is sustainable if no (scarce) raw materials were used to make it. The background to this is environmental protection and investment in renewable raw materials. They ensure the high quality of the toy. This makes it more durable than conventional toys. An important cornerstone is the avoidance of harmful substances such as varnishes, paints and chemical softeners. As a result, the toy has a harmless, natural eco-friendly mechanism.
Advantages of eco-friendly toys
In contrast to conventional toys, ecological toys offer the following advantages:
Usability for all age groups from toddlers to adults
Harmless experience
Avoidance of all kinds of harmful substances
- Strict manufacturing guidelines
- Environmentally friendly disposal
- Long shelf life
- Focus on renewable ingredients
Knetä as a role model
All of the above points apply to the product Knetä. The vegan play dough is considered “exemplary” because all of the ingredients used are harmless. The accessories are also made of sustainable materials. The environmentally friendly nature is based on the use of a salt dough, which contains no animal substances such as beeswax. The salt dough acts as the main component of the putty, which is child-friendly and comes in many different colors. Due to the production in Germany and the purchase of regional raw materials, a further safety feature is met. It is also worth mentioning that the mass can be easily disposed of in the organic waste bin.
Fresh ideas from Franconia
Knetä is the brainchild of Lisa Stein, a young entrepreneur from the Franconian town of Schweinfurt. She wanted to create a sustainable alternative to the often environmentally unfriendly modeling clay products on the market. The result is Knetä, a toy suitable for all age groups that is completely free of harmful substances. Another advantage is that the putty is easy to work with because it is neither too soft nor too hard. It also does not stick or stain. Since the majority of the putty is water, the product is extremely durable. If the putty is stored outside of its packaging, it may harden under certain circumstances. To make it pliable again, it is sufficient to add a small amount of water.
