Snowshoes

Snow boots for children - how to find the right winter boot for your child.

When the temperatures drop and the first snow falls, it is important that your little ones have the right footwear for the cold season. If you want to romp and play in the snow, you need warm, waterproof boots that can withstand all winter adventures. As children's feet are still developing, it is particularly important to choose high-quality footwear that adapts to the natural shape of the foot and supports the correct walking movement. We tell you what to look for when choosing shoes.

Material and quality for children - snow shoes

Since things can get a bit wild when romping around the playground or in the forest, the winter shoe should be made of a hard-wearing material. Leather or synthetic materials are weatherproof and dirt-repellent. To ensure that your child's socks don't get soaked even after several hours, winter shoes should always be waterproof. When buying, look for the Gore-Tex seal, for example. To prevent injuries on the slippery winter ground, snowshoes for children should ideally have a thick sole with a deep tread. Additional safety in the dark season is promised by winter shoes with reflectors, for example in the laces or in the sole.

In addition, snow shoes for children should always be lined so that the feet do not get cold in winter. Lambskin or merino wool keeps reliably warm and is breathable. Alternatively, there is now also synthetic lining, which has good warming properties.

When choosing the right winter shoe, you should also pay attention to the workmanship. Are all the seams intact? How robust is the material and how thick is the sole?

Size and handling - snowshoes for children of all ages

Above all, a good snowshoe should fit well. Your child must be able to walk comfortably in the shoe without it pinching the toes or constricting the foot. It is best to buy winter shoes one size larger so that the child's foot can still fit comfortably even with thick woollen socks. The easiest way to determine the shoe size is to measure your child's feet while standing. Add 1.2 to the measured length in centimetres and multiply the sum by 1.5. Unfortunately, shoe sizes often differ from manufacturer to manufacturer. Be sure to try on several different models with your child to find the best footwear.

Depending on the age, you should also pay attention to the fastening of the shoes. Not every child can handle lace-up shoes. For younger children up to the age of 5, shoes with Velcro fastenings are a good idea so that the child can put them on and take them off themselves.

Winter boots for boys and girls

Snow boots for boys and girls differ mainly in design. From an ergonomic point of view, there are no differences, but snow boots for girls are sometimes cut narrower. So here too: try on different models and sizes and then decide according to the fit and of course your own taste!
