Sterilisers

What are sterilisers and what are they used for?

In the womb, babies are naturally protected from germs and bacteria. After birth, however, the immune system of the new earthling must first build up. This is because babies cannot fight off germs and bacteria themselves at the beginning of their lives.

It takes about 6 to 12 months for the immune system to build up and stabilise. During this time, you should therefore use sterilisers, also known as vaporisers. Of course, you can also simply boil items such as dummies ,baby bottles and glass bottles. However, a steriliser saves time and makes sterilising baby accessories much easier. Therefore, no baby household should be without one and it should be used regularly.

All in all, you should regularly sterilise all objects that come into contact with baby food or that your baby puts in its mouth. In this way, flatulence, diarrhoea and other intestinal diseases based on bacteria and germs can be avoided. Your baby will also be protected from dangerous consequences of illness, such as dehydration.

How do vaporisers work?

To use a vaporiser, you first fill it with water. You will find the exact amount you need in the product details. Then place the items you want to sterilise in a basket in the vaporiser and switch on the appliance.

Increase the water temperature until the water reaches 100 degrees Celsius. As soon as it does, it evaporates and sterilises all the items in the steriliser in this way. As long as you keep it closed, your utensils will also remain sterile. Up to 99.9 percent of all germs are killed.

What should you look for in sterilisers?

Sterilisers vary by manufacturer in terms of size, how they work and their suitability for different baby accessories. Depending on which utensils you want to sterilise, you should already pay attention to the appropriate size when buying. Steam sterilisers are often somewhat larger, while microwave sterilisers tend to be smaller.

You should also decalcify your vaporiser at regular intervals. Since the way it works is based on steam, limescale from the water settles in the appliances. For cleaning, you should first disconnect the mains plug from the socket to avoid danger. Then pour in some vinegar essence and leave it to work for some time. Afterwards, you can remove all limescale deposits with a sponge and rinse the steriliser thoroughly with water. In any case, do not use chemicals, as they cannot always be removed completely. Home remedies are completely sufficient and are gentle on both your baby and the environment.
